Brecon, Barns & Purple Carrots

On Sunday I exhibited at a Wedding Fayre at the wonderful Barn at Brynich in the Brecon Beacons run by brother and sister, Mark & Cath (check out Caroline & Math’s wedding pictures in the gallery!). I really did jump at the opportunity to re-visit such a beautiful part of the world and such a fantastic venue.

It is the only the second Wedding Fayre I have ever attended, the last one was such an horrendous experience it’s taken me ten years to do another one and I’m glad I did. I think the fact that it was at The Barn made all the difference. The staff are so very friendly and helpful and there’s just such a nice relaxed feel to the place.

I think this was reflected in my fellow exhibitors. There were some great suppliers, such as Cakes In Bloom and Smart Cookie Design, who as well as offering fantastic services were really, really nice people.

I think friendly, funny and relaxed are top priorities when looking for a photographer and the same is equally true for your prospective caterer, cake-maker or a stationery supplier. In the run-up to a wedding, when things may be getting a bit stressful, to be able to pick up the phone if you have query or a change in your requirements and you know the person the other end is going to be honest, affable and at the same time helpful and practical must be reassuring.

My pitch was right next to Purple Carrot Catering and I probably lost a few bookings because of the my constant dribbling at the site and smell of their fantastic wares.

It really did look and more importantly, tasted amazing. Handmade by husband and wife team Simon Brooks and Sara Care. Using some wonderful ingredients, with the emphasis on local, organic and free-range showing an attention to detail which was carried through to the presentation as well.

Based in Brecon, but catering to the whole of South & Mid Wales and further a field, between them they have a wealth of experience. Simon has been in the catering game for over twelve years and Sara has been working in hospitality since she was fourteen. This really did show in the samples on offer at The Barn and if there was one very busy table at the Fayre it was theirs and rightly so. Please do check them out at www.purplecarrotcatering.com
